This week our podcast follows Better Off Out on trips to Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire and Essex that we made in March. We take in a varied batch of incidents, ranging from prehistoric megaliths, to a Dark Age warrior king and a very modern cream tea. I seem to be getting something of a fixation with cream teas as we had one last week as well.

So we start in Devon at the site of the Honiton Agricultural Show.

Then we move on to the charming little village of South Petherton in Somerset. Charming and little it may be, but there was a time when this was the bustling heart of one of the most aggressive of the Dark Age kingdoms in Britain.

We then move on to Avebury, in Wiltshire, which is famous for its vast henge and dozens of huge standing stones, or megaliths. We also pay a quick visit to the nearby and rather enigmatic Silbury Hill.

Next we go to Colchester in Essex to learn about the wool trade of past years, and what that can tell us about the modern European Union.

Finally we end up in Tiptree – famous for its jam – where I indulged in a cracking cream tea. But not until after I pondered the meaning of that for the EU Referendum.

That’s it for this week. Don’t forget that you can learn more about this campaign on our website www.BetterOffOut.net. We are also on Facebook and Twitter and we have our own YouTube Channel as well.

This podcast takes as special form as it is given over entirely to a single speech – and what a cracker it is. This was a speech given by Steven Woolfe, UKIP MEP for the Northwest of England. The event took place in Iver in Buckinghamshire, but it is applicable throughout the UK – and beyond.

Meanwhile, this podcast takes us on a trip to Durham to talk about heavy industry, we remain in Durham to talk about the Bold Durham Hussar who fought against Napoleon’s efforts in the 19th century to create a single European Empire. Then we move on to Devizes for three different pieces. First we have the launch of the Better Off Out campaign in Wiltshire, followed by a couple of shorter pieces looking at the Market Place and its relationship with the European Union.

Pam from Redcar
We start in Durham where we talk to Pam from Redcar about the importance of all Eurosceptics sticking together and working together in the Referendum Campaign.

Durham, Magna Carta and the EU
Still in Durham we have a look at the original copy of Magna Carta that is kept in Durham Cathedral. We look at the clause about habeas corpus, which dates back over a thousand years and learn how it has been quietly scrapped by the European Union.

Speech by Philip Hollobone MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for Kettering.
A cracking speech by Philip Hollobone on the subject of Brexit.

This week our podcast follows Better Off Out on tour around southern England. We start in Bournemouth where we had a pop-up stall in the main town square. We then go on to a rather cold and windy Chichester where we had a proper stall in the main town market. Finally we head west to Exeter where we launched the regional campaign and had some meetings, though I also found time to ponder on what the airport can tell us about Britain’s relationship to the European Union, the USA and what the future holds for us. Oh, and there was time for a cracking Devon Cream Tea as well.

We went to Bournemouth on a nice warm day when there were plenty of people out and about. We got a very good reception.

Chichester was not quite so welcoming, greeting us with a cold wind that later in the day developed into rain. Never mind, we had a prime pitch in the market and all went well.

Our visit to Exeter was primarily to launch the campaign in the Southwest of England and to take part in meetings, but I took the opportunity to have a think about Brexit.

And you can’t go to Devon without having a cream tea. At least, I can’t.

The first speaker was David Campbell-Bannerman, Conservative MEP for East Anglia.

Next up was Bill Cash, Conservative MP for Stone. A veteran of the Eurosceptic cause.

Gerard Batten was on next. He is UKIP MEP for London and one of the more thoughtful speakers of the evening. And the most amusing.

Kate Hoey is Labour MP for Vauxhall and a key figure in Labour Leave.

Tom Pursglove is the youngest Conservative MP. He brings a youthful look to the campaign.

Save Britain’s Fish

This month Better Off Out is running a campaign focussing on the disastrous Common Fisheries Policy of the European Union. So for the second week we are looking at the damage done to Britain’s marine environment and to our fishing industry. We also explain how the situation would be improved if we left the European Union and regained control over our coastal and territorial waters.

For this podcast Rupert Matthews travelled down to Cornwall to speak to those working in the fishing and related industries. The singing you can hear is by the boys in the Newquay Rowing Club.
You can find out more about the Save Britain’s Fish campaign HERE

Spanish Subsidies Scandal – Penzance

We start with a piece about the Spanish Subsidies Scandal. This piece was recorded on the quayside at Penzance fishing harbour, so apologies for a bit of background noise.

Dave Hicks, Newlyn

We move to Newlyn for an interview with Dave Hicks, a local fisherman. Again we were talking in the harbour so there is some background noise, for which apologies.

The EU and the Decline of UK Fishing Industry

We take an overall look at the decline of the UK fishing industry under the European Union’s Common Fisheries Policy.

Newquay Fishermen meeting with Ray Fitch

We close in Newquay where we attend a public meeting held by Ray Finch MEP, UKIP’s fisheries spokesmen where he was meeting with local inshore fishermen.

Conclusion

That’s it for this week. Don’t forget that you can learn more about this campaign on our website www.BetterOffOut.net. We are also on Facebook and Twitter and we have our own YouTube Channel as well.

This month Better Off Out is running a campaign focussing on the disastrous Common Fisheries Policy of the European Union. We are explaining the damage done to Britain’s marine environment and to our fishing industry.

Save Britain’s Fish – Penzance – Dockside : BOO

The first section was recorded on the dockside in Penzance where we learn about the tragedy of the discard policy.

Save Britain’s Fish – Newlyn – Ray Finch MEP : BOO

We then move on to Newlyn to talk to Ray Finch MEP, the UKIP Fisheries Spokesman, about the background to the Common Fisheries Policy and its impact on Britain. Sorry about the wind noise in places, but this was recorded on the open breakwater where Ray had been talking to local fishermen.

Save Britain’s Fish – Newlyn – Chef Sanjay Kumar : BOO

We remain in Newlyn to speak to Truro-based chef Sanjay Kumar about his love of Cornish seafood. We accompany Sanjay to a local primary school where he teaches local schoolchildren of the importance of local seafood and shows them some easy recipes.

And finally it is back to Penzance to learn abut the scandal that is known as Quota Hopping.

Accrington Market and European Union trade regulations

The magnificent market hall at Accrington, Lancashire, has a stall selling jelly babies, but also has much to reveal about EU trade regulations and why Britain would be better off leaving the EU.

The Statue of King Edward VII in Birmingham & the European Union

This statue of King Edward VII was made from marble imported from Italy in the days before the European Union existed. Even so its history and its links to the British Commonwealth point the way to the future of Britain if we vote to leave the EU.

The Birmingham Golden Boys and leaving the European Union

A gilded bronze statue of Matthew Boulton, James Watt and William Murdoch by William Bloye and Raymond Forbes-Kings stands on a plinth of Portland stone, outside the old Register Office on Broad Street in Birmingham, England. Why Britain will vote “NO” in the EU Referendum

A speech by Rupert Matthews of Better Off Out to the Young Independence Conference outlining the reasons why Britain should vote to Leave the EU, and why the campaign to secure that vote is going to be so difficult.
