BOO #BRexit Tour 17 : Devon – Somerset – Wiltshire – Essex : @BetterOffOut

This week our podcast follows Better Off Out on trips to Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire and Essex that we made in March. We take in a varied batch of incidents, ranging from prehistoric megaliths, to a Dark Age warrior king and a very modern cream tea. I seem to be getting something of a fixation with cream teas as we had one last week as well.

So we start in Devon at the site of the Honiton Agricultural Show.

Then we move on to the charming little village of South Petherton in Somerset. Charming and little it may be, but there was a time when this was the bustling heart of one of the most aggressive of the Dark Age kingdoms in Britain.

We then move on to Avebury, in Wiltshire, which is famous for its vast henge and dozens of huge standing stones, or megaliths. We also pay a quick visit to the nearby and rather enigmatic Silbury Hill.

Next we go to Colchester in Essex to learn about the wool trade of past years, and what that can tell us about the modern European Union.

Finally we end up in Tiptree – famous for its jam – where I indulged in a cracking cream tea. But not until after I pondered the meaning of that for the EU Referendum.

That’s it for this week. Don’t forget that you can learn more about this campaign on our website www.BetterOffOut.net. We are also on Facebook and Twitter and we have our own YouTube Channel as well.

BOO Podcast – In the Lions Den – Brussels : @BetterOffOut

This week our podcast takes the form of a special report from the European Parliament in Brussels. Lottie and I went out there to hold some campaign meetings with assorted MEPs, but we took the opportunity to record some interviews with people we met and to learn a little bit more about how the European Parliament works – or rather doesn’t.

BOO #Brexit tour 15 : @BetterOffOut

This week our podcast is a bit of a mixed bag. We start in Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire where we meet the local MP Andrew Bridgen, we then slip over the border to Swadlincote in Derbyshire where we join a street stall. Another street stall comes next right down on the south coast in Southampton. Finally we go to Guildford in Surrey.

Better Off Out on Tour – Lancaster : @BetterOffOut

This week our podcast comes from Lancaster. We were in Lancashire for a series of meetings, but I took the opportunity to visit some of the local sights to see what they could teach us about Britain’s relationship with the European Union. We start off in Dalton Square, Lancaster, where there is a great monument to Queen Victoria.

Public Meeting #Brexit – South Wonston Hampsire : @BetterOffOut

This week our podcast comes from the village of South Wonston in Hampshire where Better Off Out had a public meeting in the village hall. The speakers were Ray Finch, UKIP MEP for the Southeast, and myself. The first voice you will hear is that of myself, followed by Mike Kenney who chaired the meeting and organised it. Full credit to Mike for organising a great meeting and for attracting a lively audience of nearly a hundred people who ensured a lively discussion.

Then we move on to Devizes for three different pieces. First we have the launch of the Better Off Out campaign in Wiltshire, followed by a couple of shorter pieces looking at the Market Place and its relationship with the European Union.

Pam from Redcar
We start in Durham where we talk to Pam from Redcar about the importance of all Eurosceptics sticking together and working together in the Referendum Campaign.

Durham, Magna Carta and the EU
Still in Durham we have a look at the original copy of Magna Carta that is kept in Durham Cathedral. We look at the clause about habeas corpus, which dates back over a thousand years and learn how it has been quietly scrapped by the European Union.

Speech by Philip Hollobone MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for Kettering.
A cracking speech by Philip Hollobone on the subject of Brexit.

Bournemouth – Chichester – Exeter – and Rupert’s cream tea : @BetterOffOut

This week our podcast follows Better Off Out on tour around southern England. We start in Bournemouth where we had a pop-up stall in the main town square. We then go on to a rather cold and windy Chichester where we had a proper stall in the main town market. Finally we head west to Exeter where we launched the regional campaign and had some meetings, though I also found time to ponder on what the airport can tell us about Britain’s relationship to the European Union, the USA and what the future holds for us. Oh, and there was time for a cracking Devon Cream Tea as well.

We went to Bournemouth on a nice warm day when there were plenty of people out and about. We got a very good reception.

Chichester was not quite so welcoming, greeting us with a cold wind that later in the day developed into rain. Never mind, we had a prime pitch in the market and all went well.

Our visit to Exeter was primarily to launch the campaign in the Southwest of England and to take part in meetings, but I took the opportunity to have a think about Brexit.

And you can’t go to Devon without having a cream tea. At least, I can’t.

That’s it for this week. Don’t forget that you can learn more about this campaign on our website www.BetterOffOut.net. We are also on Facebook and Twitter and we have our own YouTube Channel as well.
